Les sorties de disques s’enchainent, toujours plus nombreuses, interdisant que l’on attende quoi que soit de neuf dans l’univers rock et/ou pop. Pour autant, on ne peut s’empêcher de se demander ce que la prochaine sensation sera… Est-ce que ce sera un nouveau/énième revival ? Une nouvelle hybridation ?
Backbone Party a travaillé dur pour forger un set de chansons qui pourraient nous donner quelques pistes à creuser.
Leur EP Sharmutations*, tiré d’une série de volumes intitulée The Beirutopia Series dévoile un étonnant mélange d’influences 70′s et de sombres mutations electro 90′s érigées en totem audio.
* Sharmutations : mirage audio-textuel croisant dans un néologisme ‘mutation’ et le mot arabe ‘sharmuta’.
Mutation musicale, hybridation textuelles et une tranche de vie peu anodine sont aussi des pistes pour comprendre pourquoi, quand et comment un jeune Libanais se retrouve à fuir son pays et finit par monter un groupe à Paris avant d’enregistrer une palette de titres avec un producteur indé parmi les plus doués de sa generation.
Ces titres forment le canevas des Beirutopia Series dont Sharmutations n’est que le premier volet… A suivre…

The numerous worldwide weekly releases sort of forbid Rock and Pop music to claim some new kid in town award. One can’t help though wonder what the next big thing will be.
Will it be yet another revival? A new hybrid ?
Backbone Party worked hard and crafted songs that might give us a clue.
Sharmutations* EP, taken from the Beirutopium series Evts / Shortcuts of EPs reveals a dazzling mix of 70′s influences and 90′s dark electro mutations coming up with some multicultural audio totem.
* Sharmutations : contextual home-made cross-referenced neologism based on the words mutation and the arabic word ‘sharmuta’.
Mutation of music, hybridization of words and unusual situations would then be another clue to understanding when, why and how a young Lebanese man fleeing his country under attack ends up putting up a band in Paris with French guys and an Eastern Europe rooted guitarist.
Soon enough came a recording opportunity with one of the most talented indy producers of his generation that would become the canvas to a series of short format releases called The Beirutopia Series. Sharmutations is the first stone.
